| THE BIG BOY RULES THE
ROAD |
| DJM
SUSPENSION recently had it out with the big boy. They said it couldnt be
done or could it. Our mission was to lower the new Ford Excursion at least
three inches at both ends and still retain the factory ride and handling. Now
thats a challenge. |
| Starting out with an Excursion supplied by Scosche Corp we went
to work. The front end was accomplished by our exclusive DREAM BEAM. We use the
same unique design as the famous Dream Beam but beefed up the proportions. We
also used precision tooling so the alignment would remain for the most part
unchanged. After test fitting we found that the alignment was almost perfect.
The sway bar and bump stops remained as if they were stock beams. We got three
inches on the nose of lowering. |

| Excursion 3" Kit |
| This SUV is
huge. It has big everything. Designing the rear kit isnt going to be
easy. All the parts will have to be extra heavy duty and with the SUV body
there isnt a lot of room under the body for long extended brackets. We
thought about flipping the axle but its so big the lowering would be
about eight inches and would require frame mods and extra front end work that
would destroy the ride. We made new hangers and shackles that almost touch the
body but a little clearance is all we need. As you can see these brackets are
extra heavy with lots of gusseting. The hanger also has six 1/2 grade
five bolts. The rear of the spring has an extended shackle. We put in the
biggest urethane bushing we had. Of course used the original 5/8 hardened
bolts. |
